copper slag abrasive grit

Product Description

Copper Slag grit for Oil Fields and Offshore Platforms abrasive blasting

Copper slag is produced from metallurgical slags and provides fast blast-cleaning rates.

It is an aggressive abrasive frequently used in new steel and steel maintenance applications. Its bulk density and angular shape give it an aggressiveness that provides clean, fast-cutting action, considerably increasing production rates.
Faster cutting also means that abrasive consumption is reduced, saving you money on disposal costs and clean-up labor. Shipping costs are reduced from reusing this recyclable material.

  • Manufacturing/Maintenance of Storage Tanks
  • Water Towers, Ship Yards,
  • Bridges, pipelines, oil refineries, rail yards
  • Structural and Plate Steel
  • Oil Fields and Offshore Platforms

Copper Slag advantage:

Copper slag with high hardness, shape of a water chestnut, injection effect is good, compared with quartz sand the rust removal effect than quartz sand is good.

1. Many water chestnut form, efficiency faster than quartz sand, because quartz sand jet out after met iron into a powder and round shape, and copper ore iron met after split into 2-3 copper ore, its shape is changeless, the sharp edge of the rust removal effect is very fast, can be recycled three times. And quartz sand for shape into a ball and cleaning effect is greatly reduced.

2, quartz sand because of its encounter iron to the formation of the dust and causes pollution of the environment, the workers easier occupational disease, iron and steel panel forming a layer of quartz powder, under the influence of word order construction and construction quality, the copper ore without the above situation, this is also so for many years large anti-corrosion company and large shipyard to switch to the cause of the copper ore.

  • Sharpshot (R) copper slag (Iron Silicate) sandblasting abrasive is available in 3 main grades:

    • Coarse: 12/30
    • Medium: 20/50
    • Fine: 30/60
    • Very Fine: 40/80 (up to a 1 mil profile, similar to 80 Garnet or 80 grit silica sand.)

Typical Applications for Iron Silicate Copper Slag:

    • Sandblasting, Surface Prep
    • Grinding Wheels (20/50 Medium)
    • Corrosion Cleaning
    • Cement Additive
    • Garment & Textile Blasting
    • Jean & Clothing Sandblasting
    • Offshore oil pipeline blasting
    • Waterjet Cutting Deepsea Structures
    • Roofing Granules - 12/30 for tab shingles, 40/120 for felt and polyester roll roofing
    • Pipeline Blasting
    • Golf Course Filler - ballast for artificial turf (30/60)
    • Additive to make high density concrete for nuclear shielding (40/120)
    • Paints and Coatings
    • Blast Cleaning
    • Asphault anti-skid additive (30/60)
    • Slag Wool Insulation

    Reclaiming and Profile Details:

    • Sharpshot (R) 12/30 grit can be reclaimed up to 5 times, by adding 15% new into the mix.
    • Sharpshot (R) 12/30 will provide a 4.5 to 5.0 mil profile when blasted at 90-100 psi, with a 45 to 90 degree angle, 18-24" distance to Surface.
    • Sharpshot (R) 20/50 grit can be reclaimed twice.(The first blast as a 20/50, and then the second, reclaimed media will be as a 30/60.)
    • Sharpshot (R) 20/50 will provide 2.5-3.0 mil profile when blasted at 90-100 psi, with a 45 to 90 degree angle, 18-24" distance to Surface. Many users will blast at an 80 psi in order to get more passes out of the material.
    • 30/60 will provide a 2.0 to 2.5 mils profile when blasted at 90-100 psi, with a 45 to 90 degree angle, 18-24" distance to Surface.
    • A 3.0 mils profile is possible with 30/60 but only on new steel without any coating.
    • 30/60 grit cannot be reclaimed, it is just too fine.
    • 40/80: This is an extra fine grade abrasive for use on carpet, plastic and wood. This product is often used for antique restoration and cars. This fine sizing typically - with properly working equipment - produces a profile of less than 1.5 mil. Some people like it more than 3060 because it blasts faster, due to the smaller particle size, and more particles hitting the surface simultaneously. You can get a 1.0 - 1.5 mil profile out of this grade, if you manipulate angle, distance, pressure, etc. As long as all you are doing is removing mil scale, this might be perfect. But if you are needing to really achieve a particular mil profile over 1.5, you may want to consider 3060.
    • Copper slag abrasive is dense enough to be reclaimed via a Cyclone separator in coarser sizes only. It has a 115 to 120#'s/cubic foot
    • Copper slag is a hard, cubical, and aggressive sandblasting media. Contrary to its name it contains almost no copper.
    • Air cooled, not water quenched. Angular and Aggressive.
